About the Painting
"Next Watch" was created to honor and commemorate the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SEDGE (WLB 402) as she retires after 58 years of dutiful service to our country. The SEDGE, a 180 food Seagoing Buoy Tender was built during world war II and was commissioned for service on July 5th, 1944. The SEDGE has over 51 years of service in Alaskan waters maintaining buoy lights and navigational aids. She has also participated in many memorable events in Alaska's state history.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter HICKORY (WLB 212), is in a new class of Seagoing Buoy Tenders-225 foot that have been commissioned into service. The HICKORY will relieve the SEDGE of her duties in these waters and will call Homer, Alaska her home port.

The proceeds from the limited edition print series will be donated to the 180' USCG Buoy Tender Monument Fund, sponsored by the American Legion Post 16. This fund will establish a monument park on the Homer Spit that will honor this remarkable class of cutters and their 60 plus years of service to the maritime community.
